Sweetgum
The inspiration for this print began last spring when the universe kept placing sweetgum balls in my path. Also at this time I came across a call to artists for proposals for a project called the BIGINK. The BIG INK was started by Lyell Castonguay and Carand Burnet to inspire greater public appreciation of large-scale woodblock printmaking. They travel the country with their giant press printing local artists' woodblocks. I have always wanted to try making a woodcut and to work large. So I was excited when my proposed sweetgum woodcut was accepted to the BIGINK. In September of 2019 I went to the Columbus Cultural Arts Center and had an incredible time printing with six other printmakers and Lyell and Carand.
