The Sea Captain

The idea for this print came from a vintage 70s lamp that sits on my Dad’s roll-top desk. The base of the lamp is a three-foot model of a sea captain with a beguiling look on his face. I have always loved the lamp and every time I see it it reminds me of my Dad. So I had the idea to put his likeness onto the body of the sea captain for this print. This video shows the magical moment when the plate is first inked and the image appears under the roller.

The video below shows me burnishing and pulling a print.

she fears the dark.
Whenever sadness pays her a visit
he paints galaxies
on the back of her hands.”
